How is it kids aren't supposed to see R rated movies and yet a child actor can?

As long as a child is accompanied by a parent or guardian, they are allowed in theaters to see R-rated movies in the USA. Movies that are rated NC-17 don't allow kids, even with a parent.

I'm not saying that's right, but they are allowed to do so.

These days, censorship and rules have been amended to a " point of no return" if i may use that expression.I remember younger,if they had a movie in a theatre that required to be 21 and over, you could not have access to this theatre even if you had a Parent or Guardian with you. That was quite a while back.I remember wanting to see a movie that everyone was talking about at a certain theatre and i was refused access because i was told i was too young.I tried to explain that i was of age and was told by the manager that they probably would study my case if i brought them proof like my birth certificate.I went back home rather frustrated to get my birth certificate because i was 24 going on 25 at the time.I was determined to see the film that everyone was talking about that, i brought my certificate with me and pesented it to the manager who apologized to me and let me in free of charge to see the movie.I don't remember the title of that film but,i do remember that there was nothing special or anything to get excited about. It was comparable to films you watch on t.v.requiring to be 13+ today. What a turn around and if you dare talk about it today, you will get comments such as : "Where are you from" or "what planet do you live on" and they call this progress But one as to still Keep On Smiling about it...

This is a very good question David,it is a real shame. The responsibility falls back on the Parent's shoulders having to decide whether or not they will allow their kids to watch such movies. It is a very delicate decision to take considering it might affect their future. Are they trying to make kids grow up too quickly In my personal opinion,i think so unfortunatly.

Chloe is a talented actress. She has also been in other movies not aimed at kids, such as Amityville, etc. I think she's probably allowed to see it, since she was there for the filming and knows that it's all make believe. Hopefully, kids don't end up seeing it until they are old enough.

My favorite actress as a kid was Fairuza Balk. I saw an R-rated movie when she did it when I was a kid, and it didn't negatively effect me. However, every child is different, and I was always rather an independent thinker. (Making the ethical decision to go vegetarian in elementary school )

Robin, was that an ethical decision you took when you saw that movie or was it because you were an independant thinker ? Just pulling your leg as usual

That would be funny if it was due to a movie. I've certainly seen movies since that would make me go veggie.

Chloe is also a kid aswell if she can do movies like this then i do not see a problem why anyone her age can't watch it if its appropriate for a 12 year old to be in a movie then a 12 year old can certainly see it Hollywood obviously thinks that Chloe moretz is grown up enough to do things like kick ass using guns kids shouldn't be even using guns what ever the reason i did as i was in the forces i was in the original gulf war in the early 90's now i do not like to talk about this as i lost a lot of friends in that war no kid should ever have to pick up a gun choose whatever the reason

and robin you say make believe my daughter is a teen she knows more than i do now never mind when i was her age here is an example your average 10 year old nowadays isn't 10 going on 11 they are 10 going on 20 kids today are more advanced than we were i learn't that from my daughter "dad i am not you when you were my age" a few years ago i was watching a horror movie she crept down stairs and apparently she had been in the living room behind me for quite sometime i didn't notice until i got out of my chair to make myself a cup of coffee i nearly had a fit when i saw her sat there she was 11 i said what on earth are you doing how long have you been sat there" well obviously long enough to have seen quite a lot of the movie luckily no sex scenes were in it i said to her you do know you will have nightmares now don't you she smiled and said "duh dad this movie looks really cool can i see the rest of it when you knock it off pause" i said "how long have you been sat there watching this" her reply "erm a while i couldn't sleep its too warm" i remember it was a warm summer now she is a teenager and kick ass for example is R rated in USA but in the UK its a 15 rating she is old enough to see it but a thought lies in the back of my mind kick ass shows a girl with guns killing people i know it isn't real but what about people who emulate it i used a gun once in the gulf i haven't really spoken to my daughter about it i would rather forget about the whole thing i have never brought this up before on ftys i don't feel the need to mention this to anyone some people regard those who have been in a war as a hero well that is a point of view opinion.

These days i am a devout christian (born again to be exact) and i hate war i am against it the background that i had being a army person in the 80's into the early 90's when i look back on it it frightens me very much.

okay here is a thought it seems to be legal for an 11 year old to be in a film like kick ass that's fine in America so why is it illegal for people to have Cuban Cigars in America it seems to me that having an 11 year old in a violent movie in America is fine but having Cuban Cigars is not

isn't an 11 year old doing films like Kick Ass and using f words etc a big deal yes? No? but Less Important things like Cuban Cigars IS! i think a child's welfare comes before a cigar i do agree with American laws for example lethal injection i support that a child's well being comes before a stupid cigar!
